Diamond wedding band or plain: which one for engagement rings?

Diamond wedding band or plain is the question every couple asks at the boutique. BELLER Soulmate offers both versions in the same gold colour, so the choice comes down to character, not craftsmanship. Compare price and care.

Choosing a wedding band happens in one conversation at the boutique, and then it stays on the finger for life. A diamond wedding band or a plain one is one of the first questions a couple asks themselves in front of Soulmate, our wedding band collection. Both paths are right, they simply differ in character, not in craftsmanship.

Diamond wedding band or plain: what actually separates the two?

A plain band is a pure form with no stones, while a diamond band carries a row of natural D-E VVS1 diamonds set along the shank. The difference is purely aesthetic: both versions are made from the same solid 14K or 18K gold, in the same three colours, white, yellow and rose. Neither is "better", one simply catches the light, the other keeps a calm, clean line.

In the Soulmate collection we design both versions as a proper pair, so a plain band for one person and a diamond band for the other can come from the very same model, just a different variant.

How many diamonds does a diamond band have, and where are they set?

In Soulmate bands the diamonds sit along the top of the shank, usually in a row covering the front of the finger rather than running all the way around, so the band never digs in on the inner side of the hand. The stones carry D-E colour and VVS1 clarity, meaning they are practically colourless with no inclusions visible to the naked eye.

In the Bridal line we go a step further: the N°3 band carries a denser row of diamonds, so it catches more light and reads more like evening jewelry than an everyday piece. This is no longer a discreet accent, it is a clear statement.

Is a plain band more hard-wearing than a diamond one?

A plain band genuinely holds up better under very intense physical contact, working with your hands or sport, for instance, because there is no setting on the surface that could catch on anything. A diamond band, however, performs just as well in daily wear, because the setting is low and flat, designed specifically not to catch on fabric or gloves.

If your hands work very intensively day to day, a plain band is the calmer choice. If you want the band to catch the light with every gesture, diamonds are a fully safe choice for everyday wear too.

How does a diamond band sit next to an engagement ring?

Thanks to its low, flat setting, a diamond band sits flush against an engagement ring just as well as a plain one, so both rings lie flat on the finger without pressing against each other. Whether you choose plain or diamond depends more on how much sparkle you want on your hand on the wedding day than on how well it will pair with the engagement ring.

We write more about pairing the two rings, the order of wearing them and matching gold tones in our separate article on how to wear a wedding band together with an engagement ring.

What does a diamond band cost, and what does a plain one cost?

A plain Soulmate band starts at 1,950 zł, and the version with natural D-E VVS1 diamonds from 3,250 zł, so the difference is around 1,300 zł for a row of stones. In the Bridal line, where there are considerably more diamonds, diamond bands start from 7,500 zł. We confirm every price against the live store, since the catalogue and available models change.

Whichever version you choose, one later resize is always included in the price, and so is engraving inside the band.

Does a diamond band need different care?

A diamond band needs exactly the same care as a plain one: during a service visit we check the setting and the security of every stone, and polish the metal back to its original shine. There are no extra duties on your side, since the whole process runs through our boutique, not through home care.

The only difference is how often the setting gets checked: with a diamond band it is worth asking, at every service visit, whether any stone has come loose, which is a standard part of our complimentary jewellery service.

White, yellow or rose: does the gold colour change the decision?

Both versions, plain and diamond, come in white, yellow and rose gold, 14K or 18K, so you choose the colour independently of whether you go for stones. It is worth knowing that in white gold the diamonds blend into the background and the whole piece reads more uniform, while in yellow and rose gold the stones contrast more and draw more attention.

It is a subtle difference, but a real one, so we always recommend trying both combinations in person before you make a final decision.

Where can you try both versions before the wedding?

You can try a plain band and a diamond band side by side at the BELLER boutique at Mokotowska 71 in Warsaw and at the boutique at Szczepańska 9 in Kraków. An advisor will show you both versions from the whole Soulmate wedding band collection on the hand, in natural light, so the decision is based on what you actually see, not on a photo.

If you have a specific date before the wedding in mind, we also take express orders. Simply agree the date with the atelier in advance, and we will match the pace of the work.

Frequently asked questions about diamond and plain wedding bands

Is a diamond band harder to wear every day?
No, thanks to the low, flat setting of the stones a diamond band wears just as well every day as a plain one.

Does a couple have to choose the same variant?
No. Many couples choose different variants, for example a plain band for one person and a diamond band for the other, in the same gold colour.

What does a diamond band cost compared with a plain one?
In the Soulmate collection a plain band starts at 1,950 zł, and a diamond one from 3,250 zł. In the Bridal line, with more densely set stones, prices start from 7,500 zł.

Can a diamond band be resized later?
Yes, one later resize is always included in the price, regardless of the variant you choose.

Diamond wedding band or plain is a decision best made after trying both on, not before. Book an appointment at our Warsaw or Kraków boutique and try both versions side by side.
