The B.ONE collection: rings with a single natural gemstone

One stone along the axis of a slender gold band, and nothing that draws the eye away from it. We describe the B.ONE collection: nine kinds of natural AAA gemstones, their origins and cuts, ring prices, and why every piece exists in a single size.

Some rings are worn for a single color. The B.ONE collection was born around this idea: one natural gemstone, set along the axis of a slender gold band, and nothing that draws the eye away from it. The green of a tourmaline from Nigeria, the blue of a sapphire from Sri Lanka, the violet of a spinel from Burma. We choose each of these stones individually and create the ring in our own workshop so that the color speaks first.

What is the B.ONE collection?

B.ONE is a BELLER collection of jewelry with natural AAA grade gemstones, in which a single stone plays the leading role. The heart of the collection is more than fifty rings: a slender band 2 mm wide, with a single stone at its axis, sometimes accompanied by small diamonds. The band, or shank, is the part of the ring that encircles the finger; here it is deliberately slim so that it never competes with the color. All B.ONE rings are created in 585 gold, in yellow, white and, in one design, rose gold. Earrings and necklaces complete the collection. Many B.ONE pieces are one of a kind: a stone of a given color and weight reached us once, so there will never be a second ring like it. The other BELLER lines and how they differ from B.ONE are described in our article on BELLER collections.

Which gemstones do we set in B.ONE?

In the B.ONE collection we set nine kinds of natural gemstones: sapphires, tourmalines, tanzanites, spinels, emeralds, ruby, tsavorite, morganite and garnet. All are AAA grade, the highest in the assessment of color and transparency of colored stones, and all are entirely natural: unheated and untreated. Sapphires and tourmalines are the most numerous and together make up most of the collection. The tanzanite in the B.ONE N°44 ring brings 0.7 ct of violet from Tanzania, accompanied by diamonds. The Burmese ruby in B.ONE N°43 weighs 0.7 ct, and the Colombian emerald in B.ONE N°9 weighs 0.52 ct in a cushion cut. What distinguishes a natural stone from a treated one, and why it matters, is explained in our article on natural gemstones, and the rarer species such as spinel and tsavorite in the article on rare gemstones.

Where do the stones in the B.ONE collection come from?

The stones in the B.ONE collection come from nine regions of the world, and we give their origin in the descriptions of the jewelry. Most arrive from Madagascar and Sri Lanka, followed by Nigeria, the source of our green tourmalines. The spinels and the ruby come from Burma, the tanzanites from Tanzania, the only place on earth where this stone is found. Green sapphires also come from Montana in the United States, the tsavorite from Kenya, the morganite and one of the emeralds from Brazil, the other emerald from Colombia. Origin is not a curiosity here: every deposit gives its stones a different shade and a different character, so two sapphires with the same color name can look entirely different.

Why is a B.ONE sapphire not always blue?

Sapphire occurs in almost every color except red, which is why in B.ONE you will find blue, sky blue, green, pink, lavender and silver blue sapphires. The red variety of the same mineral, corundum, is called ruby. Some sapphires in the collection are bicolored: green and blue pass through a single stone, as in the B.ONE N°19 ring with a 0.39 ct sapphire from Madagascar. In the B.ONE N°46 ring we set multicolored sapphires in a princess cut. The most classic sky blue belongs to B.ONE N°39, with a 0.66 ct sapphire from Sri Lanka in white gold. More about this stone in our article on the sapphire ring.

Which cuts and shapes will you find in B.ONE?

In B.ONE you will find round, oval, pear, triangle and baguette stones, as well as asscher, princess and cushion cuts. The cut is the way a stone is faceted, and it decides how light enters it and how it returns. The asscher, a square cut with stepped facets, reveals the depth of color, which is why we chose it for the spinels and the tsavorite. The cushion, a square with rounded corners, gives a soft, full brilliance. The rarest cut in the collection is the whiskey bottle cut, in which we set a pale pink sapphire from Sri Lanka in the B.ONE N°13 ring.

How much does a B.ONE ring cost?

A B.ONE ring with a gemstone costs from 2,550 PLN to 14,500 PLN, depending on the stone, its weight and the presence of diamonds. Most single stone rings sit between 3,000 and 6,000 PLN: the 0.50 ct green Nigerian tourmaline in B.ONE N°31 costs 4,050 PLN, and the violet Burmese spinel in an asscher cut in B.ONE N°26 costs 3,750 PLN. Rings in which diamonds accompany the stone start at 4,250 PLN and reach 14,500 PLN for B.ONE N°1, with a 1.14 ct cognac tourmaline. B.ONE earrings cost from 3,250 to 9,950 PLN, necklaces from 3,750 to 9,950 PLN. The B.ONE N°4 earrings pair blue sapphires from Sri Lanka, 1.29 ct in total, with white gold.

Why does a B.ONE ring come in one size?

Every B.ONE ring exists in a single size because it is created around a single stone, and a slender band with the stone at its axis allows the size to be reduced but not enlarged. Enlarging would require adding gold and disturbing the setting, the part that holds the stone. We reduce the size in our workshop, and one resize is included with your purchase, free of charge. When the stone you fall in love with sits in a ring smaller than you need, we can create a new ring for you to order: you choose the stone, the gold color and the form, and we create it from the beginning. This is how BELLER custom jewelry works, with gemstones chosen together with you and engraving free of charge at purchase.

Where can you see the B.ONE collection in person?

You can see the B.ONE collection in the BELLER boutiques at Szczepańska 9 in Kraków and Mokotowska 71 in Warsaw, Monday to Saturday, 11:00 to 19:00. If you have a particular piece in mind, call ahead and we will check which boutique it is waiting in. A colored stone changes with the light: a tourmaline by the window differs from one under a lamp, and in daylight a tanzanite reveals a blue that is not visible in the evening. Only in person will you see how the color of the stone meets the tone of your skin and the color of the gold. What comparing several stones side by side looks like is described in our article on gemstone rings in Kraków and Warsaw. The whole collection is on the B.ONE page, and the stones themselves on the gemstones page. You can prepare your visit in advance through the contact page.
