A proposal has something of a single staged scene about it. The place, the hour and whether other people are in the frame decide how you will remember a sentence you already know by heart. Warsaw offers more here than the first thought about an observation deck suggests, because alongside the great panoramas it has gardens and riverside boulevards where, at the right hour, you are practically alone.
Below are the places that work most often, a plan for a rainy day, and the deadlines worth thinking about earlier than the proposal itself. The rings can be seen in our boutique at Mokotowska 71, a few steps from the district where most of these places lie.
Where is the best place to propose in Warsaw?
Wherever the two of you have already been, because a place with its own history always beats a postcard. The Warsaw classics are the observation deck of the Palace of Culture and Science, Łazienki Park with the Palace on the Isle and the Chinese Garden, the roof gardens of the University of Warsaw Library, the Vistula boulevards, the Saxon Garden, Skaryszewski Park and the gardens at Wilanów. Each of them looks one way in the morning and quite another after dusk.
If you want a view over the city without a lift and a queue, the Warsaw Uprising Mound in Czerniaków works well. The panorama is wider than most people expect, and in the morning it is often empty.
Which places offer the most quiet?
The ones that take a short walk to reach, and the ones visited outside peak hours. The Chinese Garden in Łazienki, the further avenues of Skaryszewski Park and the eastern bank of the Vistula with its view of the Old Town at dawn all belong to that group. The Old Town Market Square before eight in the morning is an entirely different place from the same square at three in the afternoon.
Light is worth a thought too. Late afternoon in early autumn gives Warsaw a warm, low frame in which gold and a diamond answer more clearly than under the full midday sun.
What do you do when it rains?
Have a second option agreed in advance, because improvising in the rain rarely ends well. The arcades of the Old Town Market Square, the colonnades along Krakowskie Przedmieście, the orangery and interiors at Wilanów and the tall halls of the old market buildings all give shelter without giving up the character of the place.
A simple change of order works too. Dinner or coffee first, in a place you both like, then a short walk if the rain stops. The ring stays in your pocket until the conditions arrange themselves.
When should the ring be ordered to be ready for a chosen date?
Making a ring takes between 3 and 5 working days as standard, and in no case longer than 7 working days from order confirmation. If the date of the proposal is already set, tell us straight away, and we adjust the pace of the workshop to your deadline.
A practical piece of advice from the boutique. Give yourself one week more than the calendar suggests, because the workshop is rarely the bottleneck. What takes time is lining up your own plans, travel, and who is meant to be there when the question is asked.
How do you establish the size before the question?
The simplest way is to bring another ring your partner wears on the same finger to the boutique, and we will work out the size from it. Instructions for measuring at home are available in our Find your perfect size section, and we described the process step by step in our guide to ring sizing.
Should the size turn out to be wrong anyway, the first resizing is free of charge. Its scope depends on the model, for instance on whether stones are set around the whole band. Which means a surprise does not have to mean a risk.
What does a ring cost that will carry this scene and the years after it?
In the Promise collection rings with a natural diamond start at 3 750 zł, and the higher tiers are set by the stone. Promise N°20, with a round 0.50 CT diamond measuring 5.2 mm across, costs 24 500 zł. Promise N°31, where a 0.50 CT cushion centre stone is supported by side diamonds totalling 0.21 CT, is 22 500 zł. Promise N°34, with a 0.70 CT marquise measuring 9.2 by 4.6 mm, costs 41 950 zł.

What happens to the ring after the proposal?
It comes back to us as often as it needs to. Cleaning and polishing that restores the original lustre remain free for the lifetime of the piece, and engraving is part of the personalisation. That matters for a ring which from that day on will be worn every day.
It is also usually when the conversation about wedding bands begins, because matching them to an existing setting is easier than the other way round. It can be done during the same visit in which the ring comes in for service after its first weeks of wear.
